Cracknell was established in London in 1987. Almost three decades later the company has grown into one of the largest landscape architecture, planning and urban design practices in the world. With a number of valued clients focused keenly on international real estate development opportunities, Cracknell is regularly winning appointments for their broad range of services in the European markets. As a result of this sustained demand Cracknell is expanding their European presence with new offices in central London.
In 1993 the company established its first office in the Middle East and today, Dubai is the headquarters for this international practice. In the early 1990s, the benefits of having landscape architects engaged in the design process were not fully appreciated in the Middle East region and Cracknell was instrumental in defining the role of landscape architects in project development. One of the practice’s first major commissions was for the Jumeirah Beach Resort consisting of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Wild Wadi and the Burj Al Arab Hotel. The success of this project demonstrated the value landscape architects can bring to a development and also paved the way for the practice being appointed for many of the region’s prestigious developments.
Cracknell is the largest landscape architecture and urban design practice in the Middle East and has been recognised by the Dubai Municipality as the ‘Best Landscape Consultant’.
2015 marks the 10th Anniversary of Cracknell’s expansion into Abu Dhabi. One of our inaugural projects in the Emirate was designing the masterplan for the revitalisation of the Shahama and Bahia neighbourhood parks. This was a milestone development for Cracknell as the design of the parks established benchmarks for Estidama, a sustainability platform to address the unique environmental, social, economic and cultural needs of the Emirate. In turn, this development created the Estidama blueprint for Abu Dhabi’s Urban Planning Council. Since this initial appointment, the Abu Dhabi office has grown five-fold with an extensive portfolio of projects spanning all sectors and including the landscape design of Yas Island, the Central Market and Saadiyat Island.
As a result of sustained demand, Cracknell opened an office in Muscat in 2009. One of the first projects in the Sultanate was developing the masterplan for Barka Economic City, a mixed-use development set around an international world-class golf course. Today, Cracknell has an outstanding portfolio of local projects which include Muscat International Airport, the Oman National Museum, and the Royal Court of Affairs Officers Club as well as many private residential villas.
Building upon a history of projects in Qatar, Cracknell established its Doha office in 2010. Over the years, Doha has developed into a vibrant cosmopolitan city and Cracknell has grown into one of Qatar’s leading landscape architecture, planning and urban design practices with iconic appointments which include the Museum of Islamic Art Park, the Qatar Convention Centre, Al Shaqab Equestrian Centre and the Lusail Waterfront development.
With a solid reputation as a truly international practice creating world-class designs as well as an in-depth regional knowledge, Cracknell has won numerous commissions within the Kingdom since 2010. With projects spanning the entire country, we have built an impressive select portfolio of iconic, complex and premium developments such as Knowledge Economic City residential cluster, Prince Sultan Cultural Centre and Baylasun Business Park as well as luxury residential properties. Our client base extends across developers, municipalities and high net worth individuals, all of whom appreciate the cultural sensitivity in which Cracknell undertakes each commission.
