A harbour-side heritage development layering the history and evolution of Dubai.
Located Creekside in Dubai, Al Seef is the sparkling emirate’s evolution in one development: a heritage section where the traditional Emirati way of life plays out, and a contemporary section reflecting the city’s modern progress.
The heritage section
1950’s photographs of Creek life inspired Cracknell to create
a design language of memories layered over time. Narrow
walkways hug traditionally-constructed buildings. Canopies
create dappled shade along pathways. Surprise public
spaces are discovered along a jagged wharf, offering special
touches such as a camel trough.
The contemporary section
Minimalist design, expansive lines and simple materials give
an understated luxury to the section, with a wide promenade
allowing pedestrian circulation or resting spots for people to
enjoy the harbour view. The linear paving of the promenade
is broken up by layers leading to the water’s edge, creating a
meditative atmosphere.
