We are proud to see Jubail Island featured in World Landscape Architecture (WLA) this month, a project influenced by its Abu Dhabi landscape, celebrating design shaped by natural setting.
Jubail Island is a strong example of how urban development can grow naturally from its surroundings. The design takes inspiration directly from the island’s coastal desert landscape and mangrove ecosystems, allowing natural systems to shape the overall plan. The result is a calm, well connected community where open spaces, greenery, and water create a clear sense of place.
The project highlights a thoughtful approach to everyday living, with shaded streets, walkable paths, and a close relationship between the built environment and nature. Through native planting and carefully integrated landscape strategies, it creates a balanced and comfortable environment that reflects the character of the site. Through a landscape-led approach, the island grows from its context rather than overriding it, resulting in a place that is resilient, distinctive, and deeply connected to its environment a quiet but powerful example of climate conscious urbanism.
